How we're helping you to make a change.

Our bags are fully home compostable. This is just one thing we are doing to ensure that we are being as sustainable as possible. Your coffee bags are made from responsibly sourced or recyclable paper and PLA (bioplastic). With only a very thin layer of PLA used to lock in coffee freshness, they're plastic free and certified home compostable.

How to dispose of your packaging:

Simply remove the PLA valve and zipper before placing the bag in a home compost bin.

If you don’t have a home compost bin there are a number of alternatives:

  • Industrial composting - some councils allow industrially compostable products (similar to Vegware) to be included with food waste, please check with your council.
  • Your council may provide public bins for compostable packaging such as these provided in Cambridge: www.cambridgebid.co.uk/mission-compostable
  • If you’re at a loss you can collect the bags and return to us (either by post or dropping them off), and we will add them to our hot composting facility.

Our bags are compostable rather than recyclable as we wanted to use packaging which will completely break down rather than adding to the constantly growing plastic pile. Please do not try to recycle your used coffee bags as this will contaminate the recycling chain.

Although general waste should be the last resort for all rubbish as the microorganisms required to break down waste (including food) do not exist in landfill. You would be better putting these bags in the general waste bin than recycling bin, as they WILL eventually break down in landfill unlike standard plastic packaging.
